Political Forums with Substantive Content

With the Senate health care bill currently being debated, the news and opinion organizations are abuzz once again with political back-and-forth. Although the pundits within these news programs have made this an issue of debate, it can seem that they are doing it just for entertainment purposes. Indeed, many Americans watch these news and opinion programs and then go back to eating dinner without a real sense of having any political forums or news available to them.

After watching a few political pundits espousing their points of view on a variety of important issues, the average American might agree or disagree, but without seeing the other side of the issue or gathering all the necessary facts they will be unable to make an informed opinion. This is what is missing in mainstream media today. Even though political forums where all Americans can get involved and exchange ideas on the important issues of the day are oftentimes difficult to find, they are available. When discovered, these political forums will allow many of us from all backgrounds to not only learn about the facts surrounding important issues facing our country, but also allow us to get involved by lending their own unique ideas and opinions.

Without a doubt, having political forums where Americans of all walks of life can get involved is extremely important for our society and national debate, and although watching political pundits on television is entertaining, it isn’t so helpful with moving our country forward in a positive way. So instead of watching the same pundits, find other resources where you can get the facts and hear a variety of opinions, and most importantly, find a place where you can express your opinions.

The Path to Constructive Debate Involves Diverse Social Perspectives

Progress can be achieved for everyone, but it takes the commitment of all Americans with diverse social perspectives to engage in healthy national discourse. Although the United States faces enormous economic, social, and politic challenges at the moment, the best solution for getting back on the right track involves all of us coming together to share our ideas and opinions on how to make America strong once again.

Oftentimes, we forget that our elected leaders are just one part of how to change our nation for the better. We need to appreciate the fact that we are guaranteed freedoms by the Constitution, which means that we have not only the freedom, but indeed, the responsibility to take part in civic engagement so that we, as a nation, can improve and meet the great challenges facing us now, and in the future. Whether you are Hispanic, African-American, White, Native-American, or Asian-American, share your unique social perspectives, and help America realize its promise.

Lending your voice is extremely important, but equally, and perhaps more important is being able to listen to other social perspectives, and no matter the apparent dissention in national politics, we should strive to share our ideas and listen to others as much as possible. As citizens of the United States, we all need to realize that we do have the power to make a significant difference.
