Diverse Social Perspectives Are Needed To Strengthen Our Nation

The rate of growth of minority populations in the United States has caused us to reach a point where the majority may soon become a minority. Although many feel threatened by this, this realization is actually an opportunity to add important diverse social perspectives that can improve our nation as we enter an increasingly global future.

America is dealing with a number of very important issues that will define our future. We are facing a globally competitive economy and we will need to embrace various perspectives if we plan to remain a major player. Immigration, energy, consumption, terrorism, health, globalization, and stability are all concerns that need to be addressed from various angles.

We face a critical point in American history where we can choose the path toward heightened prosperity or the path toward mediocrity, and with the help of diverse social perspectives, the ability to create a positive outcome is in our hands.

Where Has All The Immigration Commentary Gone?

The public’s interest in immigration reform has waned in light of the struggling state of the economy. Although this issue continues to be important to a great number of Americans, with more media covering job losses, strife on Capitol Hill and the War on Terrorism, immigration commentary is now increasingly difficult to find within traditional media sources, only playing a secondary role in the current healthcare debate.

With almost everyone now focused on other seemingly more pressing issues it may be some time before immigration commentary takes center stage in the mainstream media cycle. However, the repercussions that we are facing regarding immigration haven’t disappeared. Quite the contrary; immigration is a growing issue which deserves a great deal of attention as we face an increasingly interdependent global economy with a decline in the amount of skilled labor and talent in the workforce. Immigration is still important and if you are there remain media outlets that continue to discuss this issue responsibly, such as RedBrownandBlue.com

The immigration debate may have been muted in the mainstream media for now, that doesn’t mean that you have to be silent on the issue. Aside from seeking thoughtful immigration commentary, share your ideas with your elected representative and don’t hesitate to lend your voice to other intelligent immigration discussions.

Political Commentary Can Be a Double-Edged Sword

There is a palpable sense of disenchantment and frustration in America, as bankers make million dollar bonuses while the little guy is left to suffer. Health care reform seems to be at a standstill and people are continuing to lose their jobs, their homes, and their American dream. A small group of individuals in the media are trying to benefit from this devastation by utilizing political commentary to spread fear, insecurity, and uncertainty, leading to public panic and anger. Becoming angry about the current way things are in America is one thing, but action caused by inaccurate or incomplete information is quite another. Political changes may need to be made, but encouraging irrationality and violence is not the way to do so.

So how can we change America? First, it’s important to remember that we live in a country with democratic principles, meaning that we have the power to make changes, and although one individual can feel powerless, an entire group of us working together can wield a great deal of power. Unfortunately, many of us neglect our ability to effect change and remain inactive. For a democracy to fully realize its potential, the people must be involved. Listening to and absorbing political commentary is important in keeping abreast of the political landscape and issues that impact us all. However, we must be aware that commentators each have their own background, experience, and agendas. It is our job to inform ourselves by tapping into diverse and myriad news sources. RedBrownandBlue.com is one of those news sources with unique perspectives providing social, economic, and cultural commentary as well as allowing many people to voice their opinions.
